Dr Elena Friedrich

Dr Elena Friedrich is one of the first researchers in South Africa to conduct environmental life cycle assessments (LCA) on water and waste management systems. She holds an MScEng in Chemical Engineering and has completed her PhD in Civil Engineering on greenhouse gas emissions from the management of waste.

Another strong research interest of hers is in the area of infrastructure and associated environmental impacts, including carbon and water footprints. As a lecturer, she has had an experience of 10 years, having thought and developed courses on different aspects of environmental management and engineering.
